About

Nourhan Salama

Nourhan Salama is a contemporary visual artist whose relationship with art began almost instinctively, long before language—at the age of four. Self-taught and guided by intuition rather than formal structures, her practice evolved through freedom, curiosity, and a deep sensitivity to inner states. From the beginning, her work has been shaped by listening inwardly, allowing emotion and presence to lead the way.

She works across multiple mediums, yet oil painting remains her closest companion. Its slowness, depth, and resistance offer her a space for contemplation—where time stretches and meaning unfolds gradually. Her paintings inhabit a poetic and psychological realm, carrying a quiet sense of mystery. Themes of emotional balance and love recur throughout her work, not as declarations, but as subtle tensions—fragile, powerful, and profoundly human.

Exhibiting her work since the age of eighteen, Salama’s artistic voice reflects a mature and personal vision. For her, painting is not a performance, but a refuge—a place of safety, identity, and inward expansion. Free from noise, narrative, or explanation, her work exists as it is.

Rather than seeking resolution, her paintings invite stillness. They ask the viewer to linger, to look slowly, and to enter a silent dialogue—one that unfolds not on the canvas alone, but within the self.
