Geometry of the Mare

Geometry of the Mare — original painting by Nourhan Salama

The head of a horse is distilled into bold triangles of black, olive and vivid orange, outlined in dashed white lines like a sacred map. Around it float small golden symbols: a key, coins, spirals and a crescent. The deep forest-green ground and thick impasto give it weight and warmth. Modern in form, ancient in spirit, it shows how little is needed to capture something noble.
